Paul Woolford’s Special Request album due in October

Soul MusicPaul Woolford‘s album as Special Request, will arrive in October.

As we reported back in June, the LP will come out on fabric’s in-house labelHoundstooth. It will be divided into two parts: the first features 12 original tracks, while the second comprises a mix of original material, a couple of Special Request remixes (Lana Del Ray and Tessela) and other remixes produced by Anthony Naples, Hieroglyphic Being, Kassem Mosse & Mix Mup, Lee Gamble and Anthony ‘Shake’ Shakir.

Soul Music was made in a studio “built almost exclusively from vintage hardware and boosted by industrial-strength EQ and an FM transmitter,” according to a press release. The album contains what Woolford describes as “false memories,” as he tapped into the spirit of UK pirate radio—a key inspiration for the Special Request project—by broadcasting his own music, before sampling and re-using it. It will be released in two stages, with the triple-vinyl LP out on October 7th, and the CD and digital versions (which both include the bonus disc) following on October 21st.

Nile Rogers to appear twice on Tensnake’s new album

Tensnake’s forthcoming album is set to feature two collaborations with Nile Rodgers.

Stuart Price, otherwise known as Jacques Lu Cont, and English-born singer Jamie Lidell will also appear on the German producer’s second LP.

After collaborations with Daft Punk and recently Chase & Status, it’s been confirmed that Chic’s Rodgers will appear twice on the upcoming album.

He revealed via Twitter in February that he had spent time in the studio with Tensnake but it was unclear in which format the material would be delivered.

Flying Lotus to host GTA 5 Radio Station

FlyLo mans the in-game decks for a look at the “modern L.A. scene.”

GTA 5 is set to continue Grand Theft Auto‘s tradition of having real life-musicians portraying in-game DJs, and the Brainfeeder boss will host and mix the music for one of the stations.

“Soundtracks have been an essential part of all our games and forGrand Theft Auto V, we wanted to cover the full breadth of the modern L.A. scene,” said soundtrack supervisor Ivan Pavlovich via a press release.

Writing on Twitter, FlyLo shares more details: “Everyone wants to know why lovers melt is taking so long. Well I was realllly busy putting all that together,” adding that he “did try and get a new Aphex song. And a new burial track for GTA V. No luck on that tho.” Understatement of the year on that last bit.

The tracklist for FlyLo FM features new music by Tyler, the Creator (the previously leaked ‘Garbage’), FlyLo’s Captain Murphy persona, and the producer himself. The set also includes tracks by Aphex Twin, Outkast, Hudson Mohawke, Machinedrum, DJ Rashad, Kingdom, and more, instantly making it the most impressive video game soundtrack ever. Sample the station over at Pitchfork.
